Celebrating Creativity.

Over the past weeks, I spoke with many artisans & novel retailers and was truly enchanted by the creativity, beauty and authenticity of their products and offers. Each is crafted with passion by its founders.

I am told that creativity is a wild mind & a disciplined eye, and seeing what everyone else has seen and thinking what no one else has thought. It is not what you at that matters, it’s what you see.

Tina Wenniss.

Since I was very little, I like to paint. I remember when I was a child, I overheard my mother saying that I was different from my siblings. I loved reading books and nature. Especially I like watching the sky, clouds, birds, trees, fish and things about nature. Our house was situated near the forest and we loved to run into the forest and play. Childhood time is wonderful. Painting is the happiest moment of my life. Every moment is an opportunity to inspire, create, and explore.

Janoka.

Katherine Kang and Nicole Seow, best friends since the age of 11, founded Janoka Jewelry in 2018 inspired by the elegance of Japanese ladies and their culture. After Nicole spent 2-years in Japan, she returned with an appreciation and fondness for Japanese handcrafted earrings. Katherine’s search for similar handcrafted earrings in the Malaysian market was frivolous. This led to the best friends deciding to create their own line of jewelry, inspired by Japanese creativity. So, a lifelong friendship turned into a business partnership of bringing fine craftsmanship in earrings that Malaysian women can appreciate for a lifetime.

Kirtanraw.

Kirtanraw got A for Art for his Form 3 exams, but his autism ended his further education. His parents were simple people working in government in Kedah. With what they could afford, his father bought him paint, canvas & art materials and even sponsored a short stint with an art teacher 68km away in Penang. His father, Subramaniam, still keeps the 1000+ drawings of Power Rangers. He remembers fondly how his then teenage son was always painting, sitting on the floor. Kirtanraw recently celebrated his 25th birthday and thanks to his very supportive parents, his 8th year as an artist. He is the youngest of 3 siblings.

Abbie and Friends.

Chan Chi Leong is a charming IT professional. He is a collector of fine toys (yes, grown men can have toys). The brand is named after one of his two daughters. It is truly amazing how this young man systematically built this business from scratch. Sales doubled and tripled, from its start 3 years ago. www.jellycat.com says Jellycats are soft toy silliness. It is quirky cuteness from the creators of the softest toys you have ever hugged, cuddled and adored. Established in London in 1999 and with new designs every January and July, there is always something original and yet incredibly soft and sumptuous to find at a Jellycat jamboree. Irresistibly cuddly, sophisticatedly silly, hilariously humorous, a perfect gift for all ages.
