I chatted with Dave Teoh at Starbucks to learn more about his academy for dogs and success story.
My family rescued 2 puppies, Jack and Sally. They had limited human & dog contact and were not sociable.
Dave came into my house and the pair started barking wildly. He came in quietly and calmly. The dogs calmed down, and after 10 minutes, Dave’s assistant could take them for a walk on a leash. After 12 days of lessons, the dogs obeyed simple commands.
Today, the pair is active and boisterous. When we put the leash on them, it’s all business and they act on commands. I have a lot of respect for this dog trainer and his team. Dogs need to go School, too.
Owner and pet, are trained at the same time. The owner’s energy drives the pet’s behavior. The pet gets excited if the owner flusters.
K9 Success With Dogs.

A True Outlier.
Malcolm Gladwell in his book The Tipping Point talked about the Law of the Few. A With a good proposition, what he calls “Stickiness Factor”, and solid “Context”, a tipping point can be achieved with a few key people – Connectors, Maven and Salesman. The tipping point is that magic moment when an idea crosses a threshold, tips, and spreads like wildfire.
Knine is a strong sticky brand in the canine world. Pet shops, vets and security circles, know Dave. The timing is also right. People expect their pets to be socially trained.
This genius and his passionate team are true dog mavens. Sales comes through the social media especially via Facebook, Google Ads, Live Video Feeds, and Online Q&A. Word-of-mouth grows his business.
Dave has taken his business to Singapore and is working on the rest of South East Asia.
Gladwell said in his other book, Outliers: The Story of Success, that success is not just about innate ability. It’s combined with a number of key factors such as opportunity, meaningful hard work (10,000 hours to gain mastery), and your cultural legacy. Random factors of chance, such as when and where you were born can influence the opportunities you have.
This is true of Dave Teoh. He has the 10,000 hours of mastery. He started young at the age of 12. His passion about dogs drives him to make his business a success. It has also made him a great Outlier destined for great achievements.
Dave is inspirational. He is young and full of ideas. I respect how he turned his gift into a passion, and his passion into his business. His business sense impress me. There is a clear Business Vision, Marketing Plan, Overheads Control, P&L management and even a YOLO Fund (You Only Live Once).
This calm and cool young man with a big ambition, looks set to conquer the world. Congrats Dave. Proudly Malaysian, and expanding his success abroad.
